Hip Hop is Live in San Francisco
Backing up sharp and hard-hitting rhymes with the dynamic, infectious sound of a live band, Tha Baysix are delivering a soulful, funky brand of hip-hop to a dance floor near you. As a new fixture on the Bay Area music scene, the band reflects an eclectic, progressive culture and sound unique to San Francisco; a blend of substance, style, and raw intensity sure to move your mind and your feet.
Formed in the spring of 2006, Tha Baysix have been showcased in some of San Francisco's finest clubs, such as the Elbo Room, Poleng Lounge and Pier 23, and has appeared in Los Angeles at The Derby, The Airliner and The Mint. The band embraces a philosophy of positive social change, and has appeared at numerous fundraisers and festivals benefiting such organizations as the 2007 Los Angeles AIDS Walk, the Precita Eyes Muralists Association, and others. In between gigs, the band is currently recording new material for an album to be released in the summer of 2008.
Baysix MC Yung Mars released an independent self-titled solo record which met with widespread airplay and recognition on the 2007 CMJ College Charts over the summer, spending two months in the Hip-Hop Top 20 and peaking at #3, a landmark achievement for an independent release. Boosted by its popularity in markets up and down the West Coast and all over the country, Yung Mars and Tha Baysix are looking forward to bringing their sound to a massive, diverse audience.
